How Does Coaching Work?

Coaching sessions are wonderfully convenient, because they are usually done by phone. You are not tied to working with a coach within driving distance unless, of course, that is your preference. Many people are skeptical of being coached over the phone but, after one session; fully embrace the method with a comment like "Wow! I wasn't sure about doing this on the phone, but it's great!"

We begin our coaching journey with a discovery questionnaire. There are 10 questions that assist you in uncovering what your goals are and what you hope to gain from our work together. Once I have received this, we will then have a one hour phone session, in which we design our agreements, explore your goals, discuss where you get stuck and your reasons for hiring a coach. We also begin to uncover your values and develop your visions. This kick-off session is essential, because your reasons for coming to coaching and how you want me to work with you are unique to you. I don't offer a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all program. I am a co-active coach which means we grant power to the coaching relationship and design the sessions around your agenda. After the Discovery session, we will meet weekly for 40 minutes. I request that you make a minimum four month commitment to coaching.

Change takes time. Transformation is a journey.

Each week will be different. Sometimes you will be moving into action. Sometimes you will be celebrating successes and sometimes you will be settling into a deep presence and awareness of your internal dialogue and feelings.  Some weeks you will have "homework" that requires doing. Sometimes your homework will be more along the lines of internal reflection, journaling, or simply noticing in preparation for action.

Coaching is not psychotherapy or consulting. We will not go back to your childhood and analyze how your parents and childhood circumstances made you what you are today. I will not make a diagnosis. If at any time it appears that therapy is warranted, I will refer you to the proper professional.

You are the one with the answers. You hold them in your heart.

My skills are about knowing the right questions to ask and having the right tools and techniques to empower you to find those answers within yourself.

I help you reveal the answers to yourself and claim your right to choose your path in life. We work to uncover your limiting beliefs, release worn out personal, societal and familial myths and learn to outsmart the inner critic.

You are the only expert in your entire life who truly knows who you are and what you need. You are the only expert who can recognize what is absolutely best for you, what is your own personal truth. As your coach, I help you to discover what your own personal best might be.

Every day we make choices to do or not do many things. These choices may range from profound to trivial and each and every one has an effect that makes our lives more or less fulfilling, more or less balanced, and contribute to our process of living to being more or less effective. Life Coaching helps you learn how to make conscious choices that create an effective, balanced and fulfilling life.
